Hot on the heels of Tamsin Cook & Blair Evans swimming their way on to the Australian Olympic team, another three UWA-West Coast Swimming Club members have been named in Australian teams.

Congratulations to Hadley Lindsay, Zac Incerti and Alex Milligan whose recent performances at the Australian Age and Australian Open championships have earned them the honour of representing their country on the international swimming stage. The past month of swimming has been a huge endorsement for the Challenge Podium Performance Centre’s head coach Michael Palfery, who now has four swimmers on Australian teams from results achieved at national events in the past month.

Hadley and Zac have been selected to swim for the Australian team in the 2016 Oceania Championships that will be held in Suva, Fiji from 17^th - 26^th June 2016. Alex has been named as a member of the Australian team to compete at the Junior Pan Pacific Championship in Hawaii, USA, from 24^th - 27^th August 2016.

For advance planning, save the dates of our own hosted meet, the UWA-West Coast Short Course Challenge which will be targeted for all and the travel trips to Geraldton / Albany as detailed below

**** Volunteer Rosters & Swaps ****

It is a requirement at all meets that each swimmer provides parents/guardians for volunteer duties. Within UWA-West Coast we are fortunate to have plenty of swimmers, that the commitment is not too onerous and usually amounts to only a half hour or one hour period of duty on any meet day. Volunteer duties are usually timekeeping but also include results running, serving refreshments and selling programs.

Time keeping rosters are posted on the website www.uwawestcoast.org ahead of each meet, under Meet Info ==> Time Keeping Rosters

Please note that if you withdraw from a meet, in addition to notifying Swimming WA / the Host Club, it is imperative that you notify our timekeeping co-ordinator, Nancy, via email timekeeping@uwawestcoast.org as the meet hosts will not generally feed the information back to the club

If for any reason you know in advance that there are periods of a meet for which you will be unavailable to timekeep, please email Nancy via timekeeping@uwawestcoast.org and your request can usually be accommodated. Once the roster is posted to the website, it is your responsibility to use the competitive members' directory and find a substitute if you are unable to make your allocated assignment

The Competitive Members' Directory has been created for the purpose of engineering timekeeping swaps when you suddenly find you cannot make your assigned timekeeping / other volunteer duty when it is already posted on the website. If you have lost / never received the email advising the password, please contact communications@uwawestcoast.org

Timekeeping / other vounteer duty "no shows" will find that they are the top choices for additional "make-up" volunteer duty allocation at the next meet their swimmer enters

Geraldton Short Course Classic
(Targeted for PN/DN)

Event on Saturday 4^th & Sunday 5^th June @ Geraldton Aquarena

Targeted for PN/DN primarily. However, siblings of PN/DN swimmers also welcome as are those swimmers from other squads that cannot make it to Albany

We can confirm that there is sufficient interest in the Geraldton meet that a coach / coaches will be attending this meet

For those able to get to Geraldton on the Friday 3^rd June, there will be an opportunity to have a training session at the Geraldton pool onFriday afternoon

While there is no formal plan in place to transport swimmers to Geraldton by bus and stay in shared accommodation, there are a number of people who may have space to accommodate swimmers in their cars/accommodation should some parents not be able to go and their swimmers’ want to go. Encourage your swimmers to seek out car pooling options that couldbe reciprocatedon the next trip!

(Targeted for All Juniors, EN, & PF Swimmers)

Targeted primarily for all squads other than PN/DN. However, siblings of Junior, EN or PF swimmers in PN/DN are also welcome as are those swimmers from other squads that cannot make it to Geraldton

Junior Racing Program

The Summer Junior Race Nights season has now finished

The Junior Racing program will sun every Saturday morning from Saturday 7^th May at the UWA pool, Crawley. Times to be confirmed later in the week - check the website for details.

The Saturday morning Junior Racing Program will be open to all Junior swimmers, registered at any venue

The racing program sessions are great practice for Club Nights and competitive swimming in general

There may be some changes to the schedules when we go into the Short Course Season, particularly at HBF when the pool is converted to the short course pool mid-end May; these will be posted to the website as soon as they are available

Performing & Developing National Yoga: Block 2

Yoga classes resumed on Saturday 30^th April. This was the first of the block of 5 sessions that will run for the next 4 consecutive Saturdays from 8.45am - 9.45am at UWA following training

These sessions are a recommended add on to teh PN/DN training program

As before the package price is $50 for the block of 5. There are still spaces available if you would like to join the class. If you sign up and join for the remaining 4 sessions, the price is $40.

Uniform & Equipment Sales

Our online uniform store is NOW OPEN

Winter fleece lined jackets (similar to the nationals ones, but dominantly navy blue), hoodies and adult t-shirts (primarily for parents and friends) oredered now will be available by End May

Swimmers t-shirts, shorts and track pants will be available by Mid-End June (should sufficient order quantities be achieved)

The new bathers, designed by Jessica Ling, will also be delivered by mid-end June subject to minimum order levels being achieved. Pre-ordering is required.

The uniform supplier is Engine. Please pay attention to the size charts as the Engine sizing is typically very generous. Size samples of most of the uniform styles are available to try on at our uniform storeroom at HBF Stadium. Nancy Petsos is generally in attendance on Tuesdays from 4-5pm, but can be available on other days by arrangement. Please email her on uniforms@uwawestcoast.org

The blue club t-shirts are also still available can can now be puchased online at the store as can club caps

Goggles and other equipment will be coming to the store soon

Recognise GDR victims being unknowing doped swimmers many of whom were minors who suffer serious medical issues

Award medals and recognise true medal winners

Discredit and remove perpetrators who currently still hold FINA awards

Club/Squad Only Memberships

The Club only membership option is now available

All former West coast squad only members can now become Club Only UWA - West Coast Swimmming Club members at a cost of $25 per swimmer plus $25 for a parent member. This entitles your swimmer to compete a 4 club nights per year and take part in all other club functions

The Club Only option does not allow swimmers to compete at SWA sanctioned meets. For this, you need to take out a full, annual SWA membership

Note that former West Coast squad only members will need to follow the New Member links as the former squad only membership has lapsed.

As a move towards our swimmers' taking increased "ownership" of their swimming, we would like to include the swimmers on the Pool Deck News distribution list.

If you would like your swimmers' added to the pool deck news distribution list, them please send their email address(es) to communications@uwawestcoast.org

The email addresses will be input to the secure membership database and not passed on to any third parties. They will only be used for the mailing out of the Pool Deck News.
